Are you ready to lead a team in creating unforgettable experiences and ensuring the safety of our community's aquatic adventures? We're seeking a passionate and experienced Aquatics Manager to oversee the daily operations and strategic vision of Wellington’s Aquatics Facility.

In this role, you'll be the driving force behind aquatic programs, events, and instructional activities, ensuring that each experience is not just enjoyable but also safe and enriching. Your advanced understanding of aquatics management principles will guide you as you supervise staff, schedule activities, and maintain our facility.

As the manager of our aquatics complex, you'll conduct regular inspections, identify areas for improvement, and ensure compliance with operational standards. Your leadership will extend to staff development, as you mentor and empower your team to deliver exceptional service and maintain the highest level of certifications.

In addition to your operational duties, you'll serve as a liaison to the community, fostering relationships with public agencies, clubs, and other groups to meet the diverse aquatic recreational needs of our residents. Your ability to communicate effectively and collaborate will be instrumental in building partnerships that enhance our programs and services.

JOB SUMMARY
Performs and supervises technical and operational activities for the Village of Wellington’s Aquatics Facility. Work involves overseeing water safety programs and special events for the general public and daily management of the Aquatics Facility to ensure community safety and the physical integrity of the facility. Position requires an advanced understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in aquatics management.

Position typically supervises employees and schedules day-to-day work activities to provide optimum efficiency and productivity. Position requires an advanced understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in assigned function or business area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversees the planning, organization, implementation, and instruction of a wide variety of aquatic related recreational activities, special events, and instructional programs.
  • Oversees the coordination and development of staff work schedules, assignment of duties and responsibilities, and the delivery of operational and maintenance programs.
  • Responsible for the fiscal operations of the aquatics complex, including generating the required revenue as projected in the annual budget.
  • Ensures that staff maintains the appropriate level of certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform their assigned duties at the Aquatics Facility.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of the Facility; identifies deficiencies in maintenance or operations; coordinates the implementation of appropriate actions for resolution; ensures compliance with required/regulated operational standards.
  • Conducts re-inspection tours to ensure that required maintenance is completed and facility is in compliance with required operational standards.
  • Develops and revises annual in-service training schedule, staff manual and facility policies as needed.
  • Meets with the public, agencies, clubs, and other groups to ensure delivery of aquatic recreational needs of the community.
  • Maintains budgetary, supply, equipment, and operational records regarding aquatic programs and facility activities.
  • Prepares the annual operations and program budget for review by department management.
  • Supervises and evaluates performance of staff under charge to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards and operational guidelines.
  • Ensures water quality tests are performed and maintains proper water chemistry.
  • Responsible for the management of staff including selection, evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintains assigned inventory.
  • Instructs aquatic programs and leads aquatics camps as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures and meets with management staff to identify and resolve problems
  • Assesses and monitors workload; identifies opportunities for improvement and implements changes
  • Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; makes recommendations regarding discipline and termination
  • Participates in the development and administration of the departmental budget; approves the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; approves expenditures and implements budgetary adjustments as appropriate and necessary

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in in Recreation and Leisure, Physical Education, or related field; supplemented by at least two (2) years of directly related experience at a supervisory level; an associate degree supplemented by three (3) years of experience including supervisory level responsibility may substitute for the bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.


Certifications and Licenses

  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a Village owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate or recognized equivalent required; Valid American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer certification required; Valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification required; Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor Certification required; Valid Aquatic Facility Operator Certification required.

Regular attendance at work on-site is essential to maintain the necessary teamwork, personal interaction, and supervision that this position requires. Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must be able to swim and perform life saving duties. Tasks may require extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
 
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
