GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Performs complex professional work developing, leading, organizing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing a variety of community events, special events, programs, and activities. Exercises independent decision-making at events. Performs other related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision.

 

Essential Functions

 

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, organizes, leads, conducts, and implements a variety of community events, including concerts, parades, art exhibits, arts and crafts shows, and similar events and activities.
  • Provides programming for community events and programs.
  • Corresponds and coordinates with other City departments, residents, volunteers, civic organizations, merchants and businesses, colleges, schools, non-profits, community partners, and other groups, organizations, and foundations.
  • Obtains equipment, services, and supplies for community events and programs.
  • Works closely with other City staff to coordinate event marketing, programming, and logistics.
  • Prepares and updates event participation forms.
  • Coordinates and/or designs fliers and programs.
  • Prepares related public announcements, information, and assists with media relations and marketing.
  • Obtains sponsors for events and coordinates sponsorship opportunities with marketing strategies.
  • Prepares and reviews budgets for each event.
  • Prepares and reviews event summaries, including revenues, expenditures, and attendance.
  • Prepares virtual events.

 

RELATED TASKS:

  • Prepares entertainment and sponsorship agreements.
  • Prepares and updates a manual and information for each event.
  • Coordinates registration and helps register participants.
  • Evaluates all community events and programs.
  • Cooperates with other staff members in coordinating community-wide events.
  • Prepares and analyzes end-of-program data.
  • Creates and maintains event manuals, marketing, and PR strategies.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation programming; comprehensive knowledge of methods of working with a variety of groups; thorough knowledge of a variety of public recreation activities; knowledge of desktop publishing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City and other government agency officials, associates, non-profit groups, community organizations, businesses and residents; ability to make decisions concerning community activities; skill In the direction of a variety of community events.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation administration, marketing program planning, or related field, and considerable experience with planning, organizing, and marketing recreation programs.

CERTIFICATIONS / PROFESSIONAL LICENSES: 

CPRP, CPRE, CSEP preferred

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a valid State of Florida driver's license with no more than six (6) points in the last three (3) years.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
